Blacklist marks the return of Spys Versus Mercs, where half of the players are spies who sneak around in third-person like Sam Fisher and try to archive sneaky objectives while the other half of the players are mercs who play in first-person and try to kill the heck out of the spies with extreme firepower. The campaign and co-op missions alone would make Splinter Cell good, but it’s the competitive multiplayer that could give the game legs. Unlike the sometimes punishing co-op of Conviction these slightly shorter missions offer more flexibility for two player teams with busy lives. Though most of these missions can be attempted solo, they are best with a friend in co-op.

Second: when you are purchasing equipment, your choices start to min/max your stats, channeling you more specifically into a specific play style.īeyond the main campaign missions, the more bite-sized 4E side missions offer a series of challenges more tailored to specific tactics (for example all of the missions offered to you by your right-hand woman Grim are tailored around the Ghost playstyle). You will never lose points for anything, the game just suggests stealth by offering more points to the dedicated Ghost and Panther players.

The savvy of the system comes in two ways.įirst: it’s all positive reinforcement. These points are then multiplied and converted into in-game currency (no real-money transactions) which can subsequently be spent on new equipment and abilities for your character. Stick with Panther most the way through and you get a heaping wad of extra Panther points. At the end of every level, you then get bonus points based on your “efficiency” in each category. If you take someone out non-lethally or slip past them unnoticed you get Ghost points, if you stab them in the neck or evade pursuit you get Panther points and if you just roll in blasting a shotgun you get Assault points. The way it works is that everything you do in a level earns you points. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.
